"Abraaj Capital Acquires Stake in Turkish Luxury Yacht Maker"

Dubai-based private equity firm Abraaj Capital has acquired a 50 percent stake in Turkey-based luxury yacht maker Numarine. The investment is Abraaj's second in Turkey, following last year's acquisition of a stake in healthcare provider Acibadem. Abraaj also owns a stake in luxury yacht distributor ART Marine of Dubai.

"GP Investments Acquires 18 Percent of San Antonio Internacional"

GP Investments has acquired an additional 17.7 percent stake in San Antonio Internacional, the leading provider of land-based drilling and integrated exploration and production (E&P) services to oil and natural gas companies in Latin America, for US$135 million, with an option to acquire another 1.8 percent for US13.4 million. Some, if not all, of the funding for the transaction will come from GP Capital Partners V. GP Investments held a 55.2 percent stake in San Antonio prior to the transaction. San Antonio was established in 2007 after GP Investments and co-investors acquired the Latin American onshore drilling and E&P services businesses of Pride International.

"Equity Bank Buys Uganda Microfinance"

Aureos Capital's East Africa Fund has sold its stake in Uganda Microfinance Limited (UML) to Kenya-based Equity Bank. Aureos invested in Uganda Microfinance Union, UML's predecessor, in 2004, in a deal that represented the private equity firm's first management buy-out in Uganda.

"Global Capital Management Buys Saudi Retail Stake"

Kuwait-based Global Capital Management, formerly Global Investment House, has acquired a controlling stake in Saudi Arabia-based retail chain Al Sawani Food and Industrial Supply for an undisclosed sum. The acquisition was made through the US$3 billion Global Buyout fund. Al Sawani operates 550 outlets in 12 countries.

"New Equity Funds Attract US$420 Million for Russia, CIS"

Russia-based private equity firm Marshall Capital Partners (MCP) has raised US$450 million for two new funds aimed at investments in Russia and the rest of the Commonwealth of Independent States. UK-based AXA Private Equity and global private equity firm Paul Capital Partners led a group of institutional investors that pooled funds for Marcap I, which will acquire a part of the assets currently controlled by MCP, and Marcap II, which will seek new investments in various sectors.

Finland-based private equity firm CapMan has acquired stakes in Russian airline operator Region Avia Airline and pig farm operator Russia Baltic Pork Invest. The investments were the first two for CapMan's Russia Fund, formerly Norum Russia Fund III. The fund was renamed after CapMan acquired Moscow-based buyout firm Norum.
