"Advent Buys Stake in Quero-Quero for More Than US$250 Million"

Advent International has acquired a stake in Brazilian retailer Quero-Quero for more than US$250 million. The acquisition was made through the US$13 billion global GPE III Fund and the US$1.3 billion LAPEF IV Fund. Quero-Quero operates 170 stores in Brazil.

Saudi Arabia-based private equity firm Swicorp has acquired a stake in Jordan Aviation, a leading aviation leasing company in the Middle East. The acquisition was made through Intaj Capital, a US$250 million private equity vehicle focused on consumer-driven sectors in the Middle East and North Africa.

Kuwait-based Global Capital Management's Global GCC Real Estate Fund II has made its first investment, acquiring a commercial building nearing completion in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, for US$30 million. The fund was launched in July and has a target of US$500 million.

SVG Advisers, the fund of funds unit of buyout group SVG Capital, has closed its first Asia-focused fund of funds with US$200 million in commitments, surpassing its goal of US$150 million. SVG aims to use the fund of funds to make commitments to between 12 and 15 Asian private equity funds. Already, it has made four commitments, in CVC Capital Partners Asia Pacific III, Navis Asia Fund V, Affinity Asia Pacific Fund III and Actis India Fund 3.

Swedfund, a venture capital company owned by the government of Sweden, has bought out all other partners of the Kenya-based Acacia Fund for US$10 million. Formerly, Swedfund held a one-tenth interest in the fund. The buyout will give Swedfund a 10-20 percent stake in five midsize businesses in Kenya, including the country's largest steel company, Athis Steel.

US-based private equity firm Great Circle Capital has invested US$15 million in Caspian Services, the largest provider of seismic and geophysical data acquisition services in the Caspian Region. The investment was made through the US$190 million Great Circle Fund, which is focused on the transportation and infrastructure sectors of the Commonwealth of Independent States, Southeast Europe and Turkey.
