"EFG-Hermes PE Arm to Invest US$65 Million in GHS"

The private equity arm of Egypt-based investment bank EFG-Hermes has acquired a stake in UAE-based Gulf Housing Solutions (GHS) for US$65 million. GHS acquires, develops, sub-leases and manages staff accommodation facilities for the construction and hospitality sectors in the UAE. The investment makes EFG-Hermes the single largest shareholder in GHS.

AIG Investments will invest in Blue Intercontinental Micro Finance Bank, a joint venture between Nigeria's Intercontinental Bank and Blue Financial Services aimed at distributing and selling micro-financing services and products within Nigeria's retail market. The investment will be made through AIG Global Emerging Markets Fund II.

Advent International has acquired Aeropuertos Dominicanos Siglo XXI SA (Aerodom), the leading airport group in
the Dominican Republic. The deal marks Advent's first leveraged buyout in the Dominican Republic. The private equity firm says it will target other airports in Latin America and has established a new company, Latin American Airport Holdings, to hold the interests.

India-based IDFC will hold a 20 percent stake in the newly-created Nepal Infrastructure Bank, which will invest in infrastructure-related projects in Nepal. "Fund Targets Bypassed African Entrepreneurs"

African investment group GroFin is set to launch a pan-African fund targeting US$150 million in commitments. The fund aims to invest in midsize companies considered too small to attract investments from other specialist private equity groups yet too large to raise capital from microfinance institutions. The fund has already secured US$125 million in commitments, including US$30 million from both UK-based CDC Group and the International Finance Corp.

Global private equity firm TPG Capital will acquire a 49 percent stake in Shriram Retail Holdings Private Limited, the holding company of India-based consumer finance company Shriram City Union Finance, for up to US$120 million. This is TPG's second investment in the Shriram Group. In 2006, TPG, then called Newbridge Capital, invested approximately US$100 million in Shriram Holdings (Madras) Private Limited, giving it a stake in Shriram Transport Finance.

The fund, which was recently launched with US$12 million in seed capital, will focus on sectors such as infrastructure, natural resources, agribusiness and real estate. It is ARCH's third Africa-focused fund.
