The acquisition was made through the US$393 million Latin Power III Fund. Return to Headlines "Brait Buys 14.8 Percent of Buildmax" (Africa) Business Report--South Africa (10/31/08) Private equity firm Brait South Africa has acquired a 14.8 percent stake in Buildmax, a South African open cast mining and bulk earthworks company. The deal is valued at US$19.8 million. Return to Headlines "Invalda to Sell 20 Percent of Sanitas Shares to Citi Venture" (Central and Eastern Europe and the Commonwealth of Independent States) Baltic News Service (10/28/08) Citi Venture Capital International will acquire a 20.3 percent stake in Sanitas, Lithuania's largest pharmaceutical manufacturer, from Lithuania-based investment company Invalda. The deal is valued at EUR30 million. Return to Headlines "CIMB Private Equity, Alam Maritim in Joint Venture" (Asia) Malaysia Star (10/30/08) CIMB Private Equity and Venture Capital has entered into a US$70 million joint venture with Malaysia's Alam Maritim Group. According to the agreement, CIMB Private Equity and Venture Capital will acquire a 51 percent stake in Alam-PE Holdings, established to acquire and operate offshore support vessels for the oil and gas industry. This is Intel Capital's first investment in the Gulf. The fund, which will target investments in Croatia and the rest of Southeastern Europe, is targeting total commitments of approximately EUR51 million. Return to Headlines "Middle East Venture Fund Moves Towards Close" (Middle East) Financial News (10/16/08) Hodkinson, Paul UAE-based venture capital firm New Enterprise East Investments has raised US$40 million for its inaugural fund, which will invest in technology-related firms in the Middle East and North Africa. The fund is targeting total commitments of US$150 million. Return to Headlines "MIF Invests US$5 Million in Colombia Opportunity Fund" (Latin America and the Caribbean) LAVCA Reporter (10/01/08) Vol. 6, No. 8, The Multilateral Investment Fund, a unit of the Inter-American Development Bank, will commit US$5 million to the Colombia Opportunity Fund (COF) managed by Andes Capital. COF is targeting total capitalization of US$30 million for investments in small companies in Colombia. Return to Headlines "Intermediate Capital Closes Second Asia Pacific Fund at US$1 billion" (Asia) Thomson Financial (10/17/08) Intermediate Capital Asia Pacific Fund II has closed with US$1 billion in committed capital. The fund, Intermediate Capital's second Asia Pacific fund, is double the size of its predecessor and will primarily make mezzanine investments in mid-market buyouts in the Asia Pacific region.
