BiD Network SME Investment Guide Series

Investments in new emerging market SMEs are limited by a lack of information and a high perception of risk. This series aims to provide investors with practical information to make informed decisions, thereby stimulating investments in SMEs seeking finance between USD10,000 and USD1 million.

In contrast to existing investment guides on the market, all the information in these guides is tailored for investors targeting the SME sector. There are two guides already available: Investing in SMEs in Uganda 2008 and Investing in SMEs in Colombia 2009. These show investors:

  • How to plan, manage and successfully exit from an investment in an SME in each target country

  • How to benefit from the incentives for foreign investors

  • How to find investment opportunities, navigate the regulatory and legal framework, and manage the specific risks of investing in SMEs in these markets

The Guide on Colombia was produced in cooperation with SEAF and includes several in-depth interviews with funds, business angel networks and SMEs.

Visit www.bidnetwork.org/countryguides for more information.
