"VPB Invests in Botswana Emergency Services Provider"

Southview, a joint partnership between the CEDA Venture Capital Fund and the Botswana Medical Aid Society, has acquired a 90 percent stake in emergency medical services provider Medical Rescue International (MRI) Botswana. CEDA Venture Capital Fund is managed by private equity firm Venture Partners Botswana (VPB). The value of the transaction was not disclosed.

"IL&FS Raises US$895 Million Realty Fund"

India-based private equity firm IL&FS Investment Managers has raised US$895 million for a new India-focused realty fund, exceeding its initial target of US$750 million. The private equity firm is also set to hold the first closing of an Asia infrastructure fund that is targeting total commitments of US$800 million.

Templeton Asset Management has announced several new investments in Russia through its Templeton Russia and East European Fund. The fund invested US$4.4 million in CTC Media, US$6.3 million in mobile operator VimpelCom, US$9.7 million in leading mobile operator MTS and US$2.2 million in titanium producer VSMPO-Avisma.

"Mekong Capital Sells Saigon Gas Holdings"

Vietnam-based private equity firm Mekong Capital has sold its stake in liquefied petroleum gas distribution company Saigon Gas Holdings to Total for an undisclosed sum. Since the US$18.5 million Mekong Enterprise Fund invested in Saigon Gas in August 2005, revenues at Saigon Gas have grown by 176 percent. Mekong Capital plans to launch Mekong Enterprise Fund III early next year.

"Citi Infrastructure to Sell Stake in Motorway Concessions"

Citi Infrastructure Investors' Citi Infrastructure Partners Fund and Spain-based construction company Sacyr Vallehermoso will sell their stakes in Chilean and Brazilian motorway concessions to Atlantia. Italy-based Atlantia is engaged in the development, construction and management of toll motorways. The transaction includes five concessions that manage a total of 702 kilometers of toll motorway in Chile and Brazil, in addition to two companies that manage maintenance and road work on certain sections operated under concession in Chile. The deal is valued at approximately US$530 million.

US-based private equity firm Amstar Global Partners has closed its first institutional property fund with US$335 million in commitments. The fund, already 90 percent invested, is targeting investments in emerging markets in Asia and Eastern Europe, particularly Russia, Turkey and India.

"Convergence Partners Acquires Stake in New South African Venture"

South Africa-based private equity firm Convergence Partners is leading a consortium that will acquire a 25 percent stake in Intelsat New Dawn, a satellite joint venture with satellite services provider Intelsat that aims to launch a satellite into orbit to provide wireless, broadband, and television services to consumers in South Africa. Also investing in the venture is Altirah Telecoms, itself a joint venture between South Africa-based private equity firm Altirah Capital and the Oppenheimer Family Fund managed by Southern Cross Capital. The value of the investment was not disclosed.

Estonia-based investment bank GILD Bankers has launched its second private equity fund aimed at investments in the Baltic region. GILD Long Haul II is targeting total commitments of EUR50 million and will invest in companies in the Baltic States, Central and Eastern Europe and the Commonwealth of Independent States, excluding Russia.

"AFDB Commits to African Energy Infrastructure Fund"

African Development Bank Group will commit US$30 million to the African Energy Infrastructure Fund, a private equity fund that will invest in power and energy projects across Africa.
